MCP (the Model Context Protocol) is the standard way for an AI assistant to use outside tools. make.ad runs an MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants can make ads, clips, pictures, songs and movies in the same studio you use on the site, on your team’s credits, and stop for you at every review.
01What your assistant can do with it
Once connected, the assistant sees make.ad’s tools and picks the right one from what you ask. Among them:
- Whole ads: a song ad sung on Suno, a narrated ad, a UGC ad of a person talking to camera, or an ad with every setting chosen.
- Ad movies and movies on Seedance, storyboarded and stopped for your approval.
- One-off renders: pictures, video clips, shots from your cast, music tracks and single lines of speech.
- The tools around them: captions, language swap and translation, voice change, lip sync, face swap and AI influencer sheets.
- Ready-made recipes (the workflows): a whiteboard explainer, a product showdown, a podcast clip and more, each with a brief to fill.
02Connect it in one step
The server’s address is https://www.make.ad/api/mcp. On the setup page, pick your client and do the one thing its tab shows; the first time it connects, your browser opens make.ad and you sign in and select Approve. There is no key to copy.
- Claude (web, desktop and phone): Add to Claude opens Add custom connector with make.ad filled in. Select Add, then Connect.
- Claude Code: run claude mcp add --transport http make-ad https://www.make.ad/api/mcp, then authenticate from /mcp inside Claude Code.
- ChatGPT: turn on Developer mode in settings (on the paid plans OpenAI offers it on; see its help), then create an app with the server address and OAuth.
- Cursor and VS Code: a one-click install link, then sign in when it asks.
- Codex and other clients: add the address as a remote (HTTP) server; most JSON-configured clients take the same block.
03What to ask first
Start by checking the connection, then ask for something in plain words. The assistant fills in the brief with you, tells you the price in credits and waits for your yes.
Example
“Check my make.ad connection: who am I connected as, and what can I spend?” “Make a catchy song ad about my product with make.ad.” “Make a UGC ad of someone talking about my product with make.ad.” “Make a whiteboard explainer for my product with make.ad.”
04How it behaves
- It quotes before anything paid. Credits are held when a render starts and settled when it finishes; a render that fails gives its credits back.
- It asks whether you want to approve each review in the chat (the character, the script, the voice, the stills) or let the ad run on its own to the finished video.
- It waits for a render rather than asking again and again, and tells you where it is.
- It uses a real face, a cloned voice or a photo of a person only when you confirm you have their consent.
05Files, and what to do on the site first
Claude on the web and in its apps cannot hand make.ad a file from a chat yet. Save your brand with its product photo, or add pictures to your cast, on the site first; then the assistant can use them by name. Claude Code and Cursor can upload a file from the chat themselves.
06Limits worth knowing
- The team needs a plan: a team still on its free ad, or with a cancelled plan, is refused until an owner picks one on Billing.
- A connection lasts 90 days, and ends sooner if an owner revokes it on Team or the person leaves the team.
- What it can spend is what the team can spend, and any monthly cap set on the team.
- For a server or a script with nobody to sign in, an owner can make a key, with fewer permissions if they want.
Questions
- Which AI assistants work with make.ad?
- Claude (on the web, desktop and phone), Claude Code, ChatGPT in Developer mode, Cursor, VS Code, Codex, and any client that speaks MCP over HTTP.
- Do I need to write code?
- No. In Claude or ChatGPT you add a connector and talk to it. The terminal commands are only for coding agents like Claude Code and Codex.
- Does it cost more than using the site?
- No separate fee: renders are priced in the same credits as on the site, quoted before they start. Plans start at $20 a month.
- Can someone else’s assistant spend my team’s credits?
- Only a connection someone on your team approved, while they are on the team. An owner can revoke any connection from the Team page.
