Your Shopify product page already holds most of an ad: the photo, the promise, who it is for and what buyers say. This guide turns that into a vertical video ad for Reels, TikTok or Shorts with make.ad, without hiring a studio, and without making claims your listing cannot back up.
01Take the ad from your product page
make.ad does not import a listing from a link: you copy in what you want said. Take these five things from the page:
- The main product photo: clean, front-facing, on a plain background.
- The one-line promise: what changes for the buyer, in their words.
- Who it is for, as specifically as your best customers really are.
- One proof you can stand behind: a material, a measurement, a guarantee, or a review you have permission to quote.
- The shop’s address, for the brand’s website field.
02Save the brand once
In make.ad, save a brand with its name, the one-liner, the audience, the shop’s address, the product photo and a never-claim list: the things the ad must never say (“cures”, “guaranteed results”, “clinically proven” unless it is). Every ad you make for the product starts from it.
If the ad is an ad movie made for a saved brand, the product photo is put in the cast and every shot is told to show it exactly as pictured.
03Match the format to the product
| If your product… | Try | Why |
|---|---|---|
| sells on how it looks or feels | Cinematic reveal | Texture, light and a hero shot do the selling |
| fixes an everyday annoyance | Talking person (UGC) | A person describing the moment it helped is often the most natural pitch |
| is fun, giftable or an impulse buy | Song ad | A chorus with the name in it is built to be remembered at checkout |
| replaces an old habit | Product showdown | Round by round, each advantage lands |
| works in a way people can’t see | How it works | A cutaway makes the invisible benefit visible |
04Make it, step by step
- Save the brand with the product photo, the shop’s address and the never-claim list.
- Pick the format, and start from its workflow’s brief: replace each part in brackets with the facts from your page.
- Leave the shape on vertical 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts.
- Check the quote in credits, then approve each stop: for a story or song ad the character, the script, the sound and the stills; for an ad movie the plan and each shot’s frames. At the stills or frames, look hard at the product and its label.
- Add captions on the finished video, then download the MP4.
- Make two or three versions with different first lines before you spend on ads. A batch does that with one set of settings. On the site a batch runs on auto by default, without stopping for reviews; set it to stop at each review if you want to approve every ad.
05Where to use it
Upload the MP4 to your ad account (Meta, TikTok or Google) as you would any video creative. The same file can also go on the product page itself: Shopify lets you add videos to a product’s media in your admin.
Questions
- Does make.ad connect to Shopify?
- No. make.ad makes the video; you download the MP4 and upload it to your ad account or your store. There is no app to install.
- Can I make ads for a dropshipping product?
- Yes, as long as you have the right to use the product photo and every claim in the ad is true. Use the never-claim list for anything the supplier cannot back up.
- How many ads should I make for one product?
- Enough to test a few angles. A batch makes up to 20 ads with the same settings, one angle each. On the site a batch runs on auto by default, without stopping for reviews; set it to stop at each review if you want to approve every ad.
